Build a doubles schedule for your group
With MatchMaker, you can generate a schedule automatically from your players and match requirements, or choose any four players and create a match yourself. Basic scheduling and scorekeeping are available without signing in.
Start from the welcome screen
Select “Start with my roster” to enter your actual players in an empty roster. The initial settings are Open doubles, 1 court, and 3 rounds, with score entry turned off. To add several players, paste your list into “Add multiple players” and check the preview.
“Try the demo” opens a separate example session with 6 players, 1 court, and 3 rounds. Check the demo mode indicator, and use “Start with my roster” to prepare a fresh session for your actual group. Your previous roster and saved schedules and scores are kept in “Events, rosters, and backups”. You will be asked to confirm before discarding unsaved input.
Before you begin
- Add the people who will actually attend as players. For Open doubles, you can leave gender unspecified. Specify gender if you want to use Mixed doubles or requirements for men's and women's doubles
- You need 4–40 players to create a schedule. Duplicate names are allowed, but display names that are easy to tell apart on court will help the session run smoothly
- To keep your previous session, create a new one in “Events, rosters, and backups”. Back up important records as JSON before you start
Generate a schedule automatically
- Under “Match settings”, select “Auto-generate”
- Enter the number of courts you will use at the same time and the number of rounds. You can use 1–6 courts and 1–20 rounds. Automatic schedules use every configured court in each round, so 2 courts and 5 rounds produce 10 matches in total
-
Choose a match format
- Open doubles: form teams regardless of gender
- Mixed doubles: each team has one man and one woman
- Balanced example: requires exactly 5 men and 5 women, and creates 5 men's doubles, 5 women's doubles, and 10 mixed doubles matches over 1 court and 20 rounds or 2 courts and 10 rounds
- Open “Advanced schedule constraints” if needed. If you specify the number of matches for each format, those counts take priority over the basic match format, and their sum must equal the total number of matches. Partner exclusions prevent two specified players from being on the same team
- Select “Create schedule”. The same player lineup, settings, and seed produce the same result
- Check the results for matches played, longest playing streak, longest wait, and repeated partners and opponents
Automatic generation follows the required constraints while improving the balance of play and rest and reducing repeats. It does not guarantee the best possible result or 0 repeated partners for every set of requirements. If the numbers of men and women differ, it may be difficult to give every player the same number of matches in Mixed doubles.
Check the guidance if requirements conflict or the limited search cannot find a schedule. You can try again after relaxing the maximum playing streak or partner exclusions one at a time. A failed search alone does not prove that no valid schedule exists.
Create matches manually
- Under “Match settings”, select “Create manually”. Existing matches and saved scores are kept
- In “Build your own schedule”, select players for the two positions on Team A and the two on Team B. Select a position first, then choose a player from the roster
-
Choose the “Match placement”
- New round: play in sequence after the preceding matches
- Existing round: play at the same time as the other courts in that round
- Select “Save new match”. Each match needs four different players, and a player cannot be assigned to two matches in the same round
- Continue creating the next match. Manual schedules also support up to 20 rounds and 6 matches per round
New manual matches are saved as Open doubles. The gender balance, match counts by format, partner exclusions, and maximum playing streak set for automatic generation are not enforced during manual creation. Check the play and rest metrics yourself after saving.
Select “Edit” on an existing match to change its players and placement. Changes do not take effect until you select “Save match changes”, and you can discard them with “Cancel changes”. Use “Move up” and “Move down” for rounds and “Move earlier” for courts to adjust the order. Simply reordering a match moves its saved score with it, but changing team members or deleting a match prompts you to confirm the deletion of any affected completed scores.
Swap players in the schedule
In the full schedule, select two players in the same round to swap their positions. You can also swap with a resting player. For automatic schedules, swaps that violate the configured required constraints are rejected. Bringing in a resting player can change individual match counts, so check the metrics again after a swap.
